چکیده

Abstract The Very Small Angle Neutron Scattering (VSANS) diffractometer at the National Institute of Standards and Technology has been commissioned is in user program. A large available space nearly 2 m along beam sample area not only enhances existing SANS polarization analysis capability, but also makes it possible for implementation other capabilities which would be easily on instruments, including grazing-incidence small-angle neutron scattering with spherical polarimetry. We present two polarized setups, one high magnetic fields low fields, together a versatile flexible operational platform experiments. design magnetostatic cavity device that provides better field homogeneity thus longer 3 He relaxation time discussed. It consists an end-compensated shielded solenoid non-identical holes to accommodate divergent scattered constrained distance. Significant improvement neutronic performance, time, extended momentum transfer range are presented. Improved polarizing devices, double V-shaped supermirror polarizer, adiabatic radio-frequency spin flipper, analyzer have yielded initial instrumental flipping ratio 100, allowing higher sensitivity detection weak features sample.

Longitudinal polarization analysis in small-angle neutron scattering

Due to recent progress in the development of He spin filters, it has only now become possible to perform routinely longitudinal (one-dimensional) neutron-spin analysis (POLARIS) in small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) experiments. It is the purpose of this article to provide a brief introduction into the technique and to discuss first experimental data. In particular, for the most common scatt...

Small angle neutron scattering

Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) is a technique that enables to probe the 3-D structure of materials on a typical size range lying from ∼ 1 nm up to ∼ a few 100 nm, the obtained information being statistically averaged on a sample whose volume is ∼ 1 cm3. This very rich technique enables to make a full structural characterization of a given object of nanometric dimensions (radius of gyrati...

The Double Crystal Analyzer Linkage (DXAL) is one of 20 being installed in the Multi-Axis Crystal Spectrometer (MACS). Visible are two curved panels holding pyrolytic graphite crystals and collimating blades between them. The design features a single mechanical linkage that allows rotation of each crystal panel by 2θ and each blade by θ while maintaining parallel entering and exiting beam paths...
